Sound Marina is the largest moorage facility on Orcas Island. Located on
the northeast side of West Sound, in the lee of Picnic Island. Guest
moorage is found at a 250' float, closest to Picnic Island. Thirty amp
power, drinking water, and showers are available. The fuel dock dispenses
gas and diesel.
West Sound Marina is
also the largest repair facility in the San Juans. In addition to the 30
ton hoist, which can handle boats to 18' beam. Boats to 60' in length
can be repaired under cover in the high bay building on the wharf.
The marina store has an
extensive inventory as well as a complete stock of engine parts.
Kenmore Air provides scheduled
service, so a ride in a DeHavilland Beaver or Turbo Otter is close by.

Peter Humphreys formed PH Marine in 1979 after ten
years in marine and engineering. At the same time BMW Marine Gmbh
launched their range of marine engines. Peter Humphreys worked very
closely with BMW Marine and specialised in their range of marine
products and built up an acknowledged and enviable reputation for his
engineering skills.
In 1987 BMW Gmbh ceased to market their marine products. PH Marine have
continued to support the full range and will repair any BMW marine
product; particularly the sterndrives. PH Marine carry large stocks of
all the normal service and repair items, also many good quality
secondhand parts and offer a full mail order service anywhere.

We find there are several types of 'Service' organizations for your BMW powered boat.
Machine shop - Capable of
doing machining precision assemble of cylinder heads engine blocks and
crankshaft rebuilding. Assembling and cleaning of engines.
Mechanic - may be a
'Licensed' mechanic. May be an 'Automotive' with experience on BMW,
Mercedes cars or 'Truck Diesel' mechanic. A qualified Marine
Mechanic is hard to find. One capable of working on a BMW engine even
